Welcoming New Students: OPTICA TAMU at the Departmental Kickoff

-August 25th 2025-

We had the privilege of representing the Texas A&M OPTICA student chapter at the Department of Physics and Astronomy’s welcome event for new students. This engaging session was held in collaboration with various student societies as part of a series of organizational introduction events. This provided a wonderful opportunity to connect with incoming graduate students, introduce them to OPTICA’s mission and resources, and highlight the vibrant community that awaits them on campus.

OPTICA International Day of Light 2025 – Watch Party.

-May 16, 2025-

Our group celebrated the OPTICA International Day of Light and the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology with an engaging watch party and discussion session!

We enjoyed an inspiring lineup of talks from leaders in the field:
*Sir Peter Knight (OPTICA 2004 President) – “Quantum Technologies: From Inspiration to Economic and Societal Value”
*Michael Raymer (Editor-in-Chief, Optica Quantum) – “Quantum Information Science: An Overview”
*Daniel Egger (IBM Research – Zurich) – “Quantum Computing and its Applications”

The event sparked thoughtful discussions on how quantum technologies are shaping our future — from groundbreaking research to real-world impact.

OPTICA at Texas A&M 2025 Physics & Engineering Festival

-April 5, 2025-

The OPTICA Texas A&M Student Chapter proudly participated in the Texas A&M Physics & Engineering Festival, held at the George P. Mitchell Physics Building and Mitchell Institute.

As part of this vibrant, campus-wide outreach event, our volunteer members led hands-on demonstrations centered on optics and laser systems—showcasing how light interacts, beam dynamics, and safe handling of high-powered laser setups. Many visitors, from primary school students to science enthusiasts, engaged directly with our exhibits and explored the wonders of photonics through interactive experiments.

This annual festival draws a wide and enthusiastic audience—boasting over 200 hands-on demos and often attracting thousands of attendees from the community. Participating in this event is a longstanding tradition for OPTICA A&M, helping us share the excitement of optics, mentor curious learners, and strengthen our link between the university and the public.
